  5. Following is a check-off list for the steps necessary to setup the PortDoubler on your Printer Port.  There are some detailed instructions located just after the list.

  8. 1.  Deactivate software that may be using the serial port (Refer to Chapter 5).
  9.  
  10. 2.  Connect the PortDoubler to the Mac's printer port.
  11.  
  12. 3.  Open the folder on your PortDoubler disk titled "Printer Port Install".
  13.  
  14. 4.  Drag the extension titled "Printer PortDoubler" and "PD Printers" onto your "System" folder.
  15. * You should receive a confirmation from your mac, that the extensions will be placed automatically in your extensions folder.

  17. 5.  Connect both of your printers to the PortDoubler.  You can connect either printer to either of the PortDoubler's ports.

  19. 6.  Open your "Chooser", click on the icon titled "Printer PortDoubler"

  21. 7.  Select which port (1 or 2) you are configuring and what type of printer you are connecting from the menus available. Refer to examples below.

  23. 8. Restart your computer.

  29. ¬†                                  The first menu is the "Port" menu, which tells the Port 
  30.                                     Doubler which ports your devices are connected to.  
  31.                                     The printer icons represent the Port Doubler's ports
  32.                                     when it is configured for the  Mac's printer port.

  38. Printers Menu

  40. The second menu is the "Printers" 
  41. menu.  This is where you select your
  42. actual device or program that is
  43. attached to your PortDoubler's ports.
  44. When you first select the "Printers" 
  45. menu you will get a general list of 
  46. devices available on the printer port. 
  47. Selecting the device category will allow
  48.  you to choose your specific device.
  49. Devices or programs that are not in the
  50.  "Printers" menu can be manually 
  51. selected from the "Other..." option.

  62. Editing the Port Trigger List (Remove) & Other...

  66.                                                                     If you need to edit or change your Port 
  67.                                                                     Trigger List settings, this can be done by 
  68.                                                                     selecting the "Remove" option from the 
  69.                                                                     "Printers" menu.  In order to remove an                                                                     
  70.                                                                     item  from the Port Trigger List, you will
  71.                                                                     need to first highlight the item you want 
  72.                                                                     removed then go to the "Printers" menu 
  73.                                                                     and select the "Remove" option. This will 
  74.                                                                     remove the item selected.

  76.                                                                     For devices or programs that are not in 
  77.                                                                     our "Printers"  menu, selecting "Other..." 
  78.                                                                     will prompt a dialog window to appear.  
  79.                                                                     This dialog window will allow you to 
  80.                                                                     navigate through your hard drive and 
  81.                                                                     select specific devices or programs.
  82.                                                                     The printers can be found in the 
  83.                                                                     Extensions folder of your System folder. 
  84.                                                                     Below is an example of the dialog 
  85.                                                                     window that will appear when the 
  86.                                                                     "Other..." option is selected.
